چکیده

Vertebral angiography is generally considered to be of little diagnostic value in the localization of the posterior fossa tumors except for the tumors showing abnormal vasculatures, because of its several weak points as followed; (1) The branches of the vertebral and basilar arteries in the posterior fossa have numerous variations and lack constancy in their course. (2) Since the bilateral branches of the basilar artery are visualized simul taneously on the lateral view, the discrimination of every branches in rather dif ficult on films. (3) The shadows of the pyramids of the temporal bone overlapped upon the vascular branches obscure the individual course of the vessels?1,5.7 Accordingly, the pneumography was mainly used to decide the localization of the posterior fossa tumor. Recently, Huang et al (1964) described in detail the normal configuration of the veins of the posterior fossa, especially the precentral cerebellar vein. He pointed out the changes in the precentral cerebellar vein which could be overlooked in tentorial notch meningoma and chordoma. The con stancy of the course of this vein and its location which lay in the fissure between the brain stem and the cerebellum encouraged us to perform this study.

Precentral cerebellar vein in cystic astrocytomas of the vermis.

A peculiar abnormality of the precentral cerebellar vein seen only in cystic astrocytoma of the vermis is reported. Implications of this angiographic finding are discussed. The importance of posterior fossa angiography (especially venography) in the diagnosis of posterior fossa mass lesions is emphasized.

Precentral cerebellar vein in cystic astrocytomas of the vermis LEO

Until recently, angiography has been of little help in the diagnosis of mass lesions of the posterior fossa. Advances in neuroradiology have now made posterior fossa angiography the procedure of choice in many cases. The anatomy and radiography of the veins of the posterior fossa have been detailed by Huang and Wolf (1965, 1966). Reports of angiographic (especially venographic) features of post...

Isolated vein thrombosis of the posterior fossa presenting as localized cerebellar venous infarctions or hemorrhages.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cerebellar venous infarction or hemorrhage due to isolated venous thrombosis of the posterior fossa is a rare form of intracranial vein thrombosis that can be unsuspected in clinical practice. METHODS We studied 230 patients with intracranial vein thrombosis, identifying 9 (3.9%: 7 women, mean age 34 years) with neuroimaging or histopathologic evidence of localized post...

Pattern of Origin of Anterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery in a Black Kenyan Population

Background: Pattern of origin of anterior inferior artery is important in interpretation of posterior circulatory stroke and during posterior cranial fossa surgery for aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, tumors, posterior cerebral revascularization, and in diagnostic as well as interventional neuroradiology. The pattern displays ethnic variation but data from African populations are scanty....
